WHO AM I AND WHY DOES IT MATTER?
Hey guys! My name is Donald Hutcherson and I want to tell you the story about how I got into dog training in Queens New York because maybe it’s similar to your story. But first I have to admit that when I first decided to get a dog I had no idea what I was doing. I was no Cesar Millan. Deep inside of me I was so passionate about dogs, but I could not explain why. I really loved dogs. I didn’t grow up around animals knowing instinctively what to do. I had a Pit bull puppy a while back. I just thought he looked amazing and thought I could train him on my own. My convictions and instincts was what gave me the guts and audacity to carry on even with limited knowledge and understanding about dogs. After several years he ended up being dog aggressive and shaky about every noise and lunged at people walking by.
WHAT I FOUND OUT ABOUT DOGS
Dog training New York City - I read a bunch of books and thought I could still do it myself. The problem was there was so much contradicting information that I didn’t know which method to perform. I didn’t realize how complex dog training can be if you don’t recognize the signs and know exactly what to do, when to do it and also how to do it. After a while the burden was too much for me to hold and I resorted to hiring a dog trainer. This worked out a little while. My dog wouldn’t display aggressive behavior but it didn’t change the way he felt around other dogs. After a while he began displaying aggressive behaviors again. I realized that the dog owner was punishing aggression but not dealing with it. This is what a lot of dog trainers and dog owners do. They either avoid the problem or try to punish it out of the dog. Sometimes a simple understanding of the psychological nature of dogs is all that is needed to fix the problem. A conscious knowing that not all forms of aggression is totally bad in itself.
MY WAY
Through working with many dogs, including my own, I learned that it is important to change the dog’s mindset in order to achieve lasting effects. One thing I learned from world renowned trainer Michael Ellis is that a person cannot reward a mindset of a dog. This is why punishing the dog or even saying “good boy!” will not work. There are nuances that a beginner might miss. I came back to Queens NY with more dog training skills.
I NOW DEDICATE MY TIME TO RE-SOCIALIZING AGGRESSIVE & FEARFUL DOGS, USING A STEP BY STEP PROCESS SO THAT DOG OWNERS AND DOGS CAN ENJOY WHAT OUR SOCIETY HAS TO OFFER.
